‘Three Tofu Blocks Pam’! PETA Wants Beloved ‘Gavin and Stacey’ Character to Go Vegan for the Finale

London – Following the announcement that the final episode of Gavin and Stacey will air on Christmas Day, PETA sent a letter to show writers and producers James Corden and Ruth Jones urging them to give Pam a compassionate character arc by having her become a committed vegan in the finale – fully shedding her feared “Three Steaks Pam” reputation by putting a meat-free centrepiece on the table and getting sloshed on vegan eggnog.

“By making Pam vegan for the finale, you’ll ensure that – whether or not she gets ‘drunk, drunk’ this Christmas – she’ll enjoy a ‘well lush’ spread while sparing clever pigs, curious turkeys, and industrious fish suffering,” writes PETA Vice President of Programmes Elisa Allen. “This act of compassion promoting a better tomorrow for everyone would be a wonderful note on which to end such a beloved series.”

PETA notes that a proud vegan Pam would help encourage viewers to indulge in their own animal-free Christmas feast, as misguided customs spell torment and a horrific death for many animals. Approximately 9 million turkeys are killed for Christmas dinner each year in the UK alone. Every person inspired to follow Pam’s lead by going vegan would spare the lives of nearly 200 animals a year. Furthermore, widespread adoption of vegan eating could cut global greenhouse gas emissions by 70% by 2050.

PETA – whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to eat”– opposes speciesism, a human-supremacist worldview. The group offers a free vegan starter kit. For more information, please visit PETA.org.uk or follow the group on X, Facebook, TikTok, or Instagram.
