Dublin – Wearing a short green dress made entirely of lettuce leaves, model Rosanna Davison posed in front of the Spire of Dublin Wednesday to encourage everyone to “turn over a new leaf” and go vegetarian.

“A vegetarian diet is a great way to stay fit and healthy”, says the former Miss World. “As well as causing incredible suffering to animals, the meat industry damages our forests, our water supply and the global climate – so the best way to ‘go green’ this St. Patrick’s Day is to go vegetarian.”

Banishing meat from one’s plate benefits both the planet and one’s body. Vegetarians and vegans are, on average, significantly trimmer than meat-eaters, and they are less likely to suffer from heart disease, cancer, strokes and diabetes. A recent United Nations report concluded that a global shift towards a diet free of animal-derived products is vital in order to combat against world hunger and the worst effects of climate change.

In addition, billions of animals raised for food each year endure miserable lives on crowded, filthy factory farms, where they are subjected to painful mutilations, suffer from crippling injuries and face terrifying deaths.
