Hiroshima – Today, PETA Asia supporters launched a G7 protest wearing face masks of world leaders Rishi Sunak, Anthony Albanese, Joe Biden, Fumio Kishida, Olaf Scholz, and Emmanuel Macron while carrying giant signs showing the Earth on fire and delivering the dire message “Go Vegan or We All Die”.

They descended on Hiroshima’s Motoujina-guchi station ahead of the summit to urge governments to implement policies for transitioning to vegan food systems. The protesters pointed out that raising animals for food causes immense suffering, produces tonnes of greenhouse gases, and requires massive amounts of land, feed, energy, and water.

“Killing animals for food is killing the planet and us by extension, and going vegan is the most efficient way to halt the climate catastrophe,” says PETA Vice President of Programmes Elisa Allen. “PETA entities worldwide are calling on G7 summit attendees to implement robust pro-vegan measures before it’s too late.”

PETA – whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to eat” and which opposes speciesism, a human-supremacist worldview – notes that according to the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, the production of meat, eggs, and dairy is the leading cause of ocean dead zones, water pollution, species extinction, and habitat destruction. Every person who goes vegan saves the lives of nearly 200 animals a year.
