Nottinghamshire Police Net PETA Award for Saving Dog Trapped in Hot Car
Nottingham – A Hero to Animals Award is on its way from PETA to Nottinghamshire Police after officers smashed a car window last week to free a shih tzu who had collapsed in the 33-degree heat. The dog was given water and emergency veterinary care and is recovering well, according to reports.
“Temperatures inside a parked car can reach deadly heights in minutes, turning a ‘quick errand’ into a tragedy for a dog – even if the windows are slightly open,” says PETA Vice President of UK Programmes and Operations Elisa Allen. “Every summer, many dogs face horrific, preventable deaths in hot cars – which is why it’s so crucial for people to act quickly. PETA applauds these officers for not hesitating to act and saving a life.”
PETA joins Nottinghamshire Police in reminding all dog guardians never to leave any animal inside a parked car. On a 26-degree day, the temperature inside a shaded car is roughly 32 degrees, and the inside of a vehicle parked in the sun can reach 70 degrees in a matter of minutes.
PETA – whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to abuse in any way” – opposes speciesism, a human-supremacist worldview. For more information, please visit PETA.org.uk or follow the group on Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram.
