Bulova Confirms That It No Longer Buys Reptile Skins Following Push From PETA US

14.08.2024

London – After hearing from PETA US and more than 13,000 of its members and supporters about the cruel ways pythons and other reptiles are killed for their skin, watch brand Bulova – which is owned by industry giant Citizen Watch Company – confirmed to the group that it no longer buys new reptile skins for its products.

“Every item made from the skin of a wild animal is stitched with the suffering of a sentient individual who didn’t want to die,” says PETA Vice President of Corporate Projects Yvonne Taylor. “PETA applauds Bulova for this compassionate move and urges LVMH (which owns Dior and other brands), Gucci, and Hermès to also remove cruelly obtained wild-animal skins from their ranges.”

PETA entities have documented that workers on reptile farms electroshock crocodiles, sever their spinal cords with a metal blade, bash snakes on the head with hammers, and pump them full of water to loosen their skin before it’s peeled off – often while they’re still conscious.

Bulova adds its name to a growing list of brands – including Apple, Chanel, Burberry, Calvin Klein, and Vivienne Westwood – that have banned the skins of reptiles and other wild animals from their collections.

PETA – whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to wear” – opposes speciesism, a human-supremacist worldview. For more information, please visit PETA.org.uk or follow the group on Facebook, X, TikTok, or Instagram.
