ARGOS, ALESSI, AND BARBOUR NAB KUDOS IN PETA’S FIRST-EVER COMPANION ANIMAL AWARDS
Group Celebrates Wool-Free Beds, Leather-Free Collars, Meat-Free Treats, and More Humane Ways to Keep Dogs, Cats, and Other Animals Happy
London – With the aim of helping guardians provide their dogs and cats with the best care, grooming, and entertainment available, PETA has launched the first annual Companion Animal Awards. Every collar, leash, bed, and toy on the list is 100 per cent free of animal-derived materials like leather and wool and ingredients like meat – and they’re all well-loved by companion animals.
The inaugural winners include Argos, which wins Best Cat Scratcher for its climbable Petface House Scratcher; Alessi, which nabs Best Bowl for its stylish lidded Lulà dog bowl; and Barbour, which takes home the award for Best Dog Coat for its extra-warm Dog Coat.
“PETA’s Companion Animal Awards seek to celebrate the high-quality, ethical products that compassionate dog and cat guardians want for their beloved family members,” says PETA Director Elisa Allen. “All of our winners’ wonderful products are free of animal-derived materials and ingredients, so they’re as kind to sheep and cows as they are to dogs and cats.”
Other apparel winners include Noggins & Binkles for Best ID Tags, FriendshipCollar’s “Pine-ing For You” collar for Best Dog Collar, Hurtta’s cooling harness for Best Harness, and Laura Zabo’s Top Dog Bicycle Tire Dog Lead for Best Lead. Among the dog-centric winners are Weaver Green’s Kasbah Smoke Floor Cushion (Best Dog Bed), My Intelligent Dogs’ Wheel of Fortune (Best Dog Toy), Benevo’s Pawtato Sticks with Spinach and Kale (Best Dog Treats), and The Dogs Body’s Rascal Shampoo Bar (Best Shampoo). Cat-centric awards go to Meyou Paris’ The Cat Ball (Best Cat Bed), Beco Pets’ Beco Cat Bowl (Best Cat Bowl), and Fetch’s Catit 2.0 Super Circuit (Best Cat Toy).
PETA – whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to abuse in any way” – encourages everyone with the time and resources needed to provide a dog or a cat with a lifelong home to visit their local animal shelter and never buy animals from pet stores or breeders, which add to the homeless-animal crisis.
