‘Veganuary’ 2021: Vegan Food Launches

Last year gave us Nando’s Great Imitator, Subway’s Beyond Meatball Marinara sub, Greggs’ Vegan Steak Bake, Caffé Nero’s vegan raspberry croissants, and so much more. It’s safe to say the bar has been set quite high for 2021, at least for vegan food. Nonetheless, we’re happy to report that the vegan revolution marches on: the industry-wide vegan food boom means more and more cafés, fast-food joints, and chain restaurants want a slice of the lucrative plant-based pie.

Here are some of the most exciting launches to look forward to in the new year:

  • Aldi

Aldi has lots in store for 2021, including an arrabiata pizza with vegan chicken and additions to its Plant Menu line, such as Jamaican-style chilli bean stew, coconut and apple dhal, and dairy-free ice cream. Established favourites like Plant Menu’s Red Onion & Rosemary Sausages and the Earth Grown Classic Meatless Meatballs will still be available.

  • Asda

Vegan bacon and chicken are coming to an Asda location near you! The supermarket’s Vegan & Plant Based line is growing with the addition of bacon-style rashers, chicken-style kievs, nuggets, and shawarma. Asda now also has a vegan butcher counter, where you can source all your plant-based favourites.

  • Burger King

    Burger King

Burger King’s new Vegan Bean Burger features two signature veggie patties topped with lettuce, tomato, ketchup, and vegan mayo on a toasted sesame-seed bun. It’ll be available at all UK Burger King locations from 11 January.

  • Chiquito

Chiquito’s updated vegan menu section has plenty to offer, including loaded wedges, paella, enchiladas, telera buns, and more. Our must-tries from the new plant-based offerings? The corn ribs and the deep-fried ice cream!

  • Co-op

Co-op will be nearly doubling the vegan offerings of its Gro brand in the new year. Our favourites include Sizzle Steaks made with mushrooms and plant protein, Chick’n Kievs with a roast garlic filling, Mushroom & Spinach Wellington, meatless pies, and Linguine Meatball Marinara with a mildly spiced tomato sauce, mushroom meatballs, SunBlush tomatoes, vegan mozzarella, and parsley. Yum!

  • Cooplands

Cooplands is bringing vegan cream cake to the high street! The Vegan Devonshire Split made with a pillowy soft sweet bun, filled with tangy strawberry jam and vegan whipped cream, will be available across 170 stores for just £1.15. In addition, check out the chain’s vegan sausage roll, steak bake, pizza, “cheese” and pickle sandwich, and “cheese” and vegetable bake!

  • Costa Coffee

    Costa Coffee

We predict that vegan chicken will be huge in 2021, and Costa Coffee’s new Vegan BBQ Chick’n Panini will hit the spot. In addition, returning favourites like the Vegan Smoky Ham & Cheeze Toastie and strawberry vegan croissants will be joined by a new Vegan Roasted Butternut Squash Pastry Roll, a Jamaican Ginger Loaf Cake, and other options.

  • Frankie & Benny’s

Delighting us with six new vegan dishes, Frankie & Benny’s has something for everyone. With a vegan menu that includes BBQ jackfruit bites, “pepperoni” pizza, a beet burger, a “meatball” sandwich, red velvet hot cookie dough, and creamy Oreo cake, you’ll need a few visits to try it all.

  • Domino’s

Domino’s new Chick-Ain’t pizza offering is a little slice of heaven. It delivers cheesy goodness, delicious plant-based strips, crunchy onions, and finely chopped peppers, and the new Vegan Nuggets coated in crispy southern-fried breadcrumbs served with vegan garlic and herb dip are perfect pizza companions. Line these plant-based goodies up and knock ’em down!

  • Hellmann’s

Hellmann’s new vegan bacon, chipotle, and garlic mayonnaises are perfect for veggie burgers, chips, sandwiches, and salads. These vegan spreads have a smooth, thick consistency, making them ideal for dolloping and putting on all your favourite dishes – mayo dreams come true in 2021.

Higgidy’s winter range is back, this time introducing three vegan pies that are comforting and totally delicious. Meet the Spinach & Roasted Tomato Vegan Quiche, the Porcini Mushroom & Spinach Vegan Little Quiche, and the Mini No-Pork Pies – hearty plant-based offerings ideal for hibernation!

  • Krispy Kreme

Krispy Kreme is finally rolling out its first vegan doughnut – the Original Glazed Vegan, which tastes just like the iconic glazed doughnut the chain launched back in 1937. We won’t blame you if you order a dozen just for yourself.

  • Las Iguanas
