Progress! Camden Market Is Ditching Fur
Camden Market – one of London’s most iconic attractions – has announced a ban on sales of fur, which will come into effect on Thursday.
The popular shopping destination joins the capital’s growing list of fur-free markets and retailers, including Spitalfields, Selfridges, and Liberty – as well as designers such as Vivienne Westwood and Stella McCartney.
Whether it’s a fluffy rabbit-fur key ring or a vintage fox-fur coat, all items made of fur are a product of extreme suffering. Today’s kind shoppers want nothing to do with cruelty – and PETA commends Camden Market for doing the right thing for animals and consumers.
The market’s announcement that it’s dropping fur is yet more evidence that today’s shoppers don’t want to buy or wear the skin of an animal who endured a life of suffering and a violent death.
On fur farms in Europe, in China, and elsewhere, inquisitive and normally free-roaming animals such as foxes, minks, and rabbits spend their entire lives confined to tiny, filthy wire cages and are often killed by electrocution, neck-breaking, or drowning.
