PETA Protesters Stage ‘Dog Roast’ in London
In the wake of recent news coverage of a campaign aiming to ban the consumption of dog meat in the UK, PETA supporters took to the streets of London today to show that flesh is flesh – no matter the species.
Over a banner proclaiming, “If You Wouldn’t Eat a Dog, Why Eat a Pig? Go Vegan!”, the protesters roasted a “dog” in the middle of King’s Cross and handed out “Think Before You Eat” leaflets about the cruelty of animal agriculture to passers-by.
The powerful demo certainly raised concerns from passers-by who were horrified at the thought of eating dog meat. But if that sends a shiver down your spine, why eat the flesh of any animal, since all have the capacity to suffer?
While the idea of barbecuing dogs rightly causes outrage in the UK, millions of farmed animals are processed through a horrific system of suffering when they’re raised for the meat industry. Many endure shortened lives in severely crowded and filthy conditions, and all end up at the abattoir.
The meat, egg, and dairy industries are a nightmare for animals, who are treated like “products” rather than sentient individuals who have the ability to feel pain, fear, and joy, just as dogs do. Go vegan to spare them a lifetime of suffering:
If you’re having a barbecue this summer, please show your love for animals by keeping them off the grill. Instead, enjoy some of the huge selection of delicious vegan meats that are readily available:
