PETA Campus Reps’ Huge Vegan Sandwich Giveaway
PETA’s Campus Rep Programme partnered with top vegan food company VBites to do a vegan meat giveaway at universities throughout the UK. Our campus reps handed out delicious vegan sandwiches and wraps made with vegan meat provided by the brand.
The free food drew in the crowds and prompted discussions about the suffering endured by animals raised for their flesh, the meat industry’s huge contribution to the climate crisis, and how easy it is to thrive on a plant-based diet. The reps reached hundreds of students and staff members, also distributing leaflets and copies of PETA’s vegan starter kit to help people on their journey to vegan living.
“Everyone, including meat-eaters, loved the sandwiches and wraps, with a few commenting, ‘You can’t tell the difference.’*”
– Emma, campus rep, University College Birmingham
*But choosing vegan meat makes a big difference for animals!
“Everybody loved the food, and we had so many interested in veganism and moving towards plant-based eating …. People were asking where they could buy vegan meats from to cook at home.”
– Matt, campus rep, University of Exeter

Why Vegan?
The meat, fishing, egg, and dairy industries are a nightmare for animals, who are treated like commodities rather than sentient individuals who have the ability to feel pain, fear, and joy.
All animals reared for food suffer. Females are repeatedly forcibly impregnated. Babies are torn away from their mothers, mutilated, and kept in filthy and severely crowded conditions. Then, often when they’re only a few months old, they endure a terrifying trip to the abattoir, where many are improperly stunned and their throats are commonly slit while they’re fully conscious.
