Greggs Vegan Sausage Roll Hits Shelves After More Than 20,000 People Signed PETA’s Petition
Greggs is launching a vegan-friendly version of its most iconic product – the sausage roll.
The people have spoken: last year, more than 20,000 of them signed PETA’s petition asking for a vegan sausage roll – and Greggs listened. The most hotly anticipated launch of 2019 will mean that the skyrocketing number of vegans, vegetarians, and flexitarians around the UK will never be far from a quick and delicious plant-based snack.
The Greggs Vegan Sausage Roll has been developed to mirror some of the sausage roll’s classic features, including 96 layers of light and crisp puff pastry, but instead of being made with meat, it has a bespoke Quorn filling.
The vegan sausage roll will be on sale from Thursday, 3 January, in 950 Greggs shops across the country. If your local Greggs isn’t one of them, be sure to ask the manager to stock it so you and your friends don’t miss out.
In 2018, Greggs released its first savoury vegan item: the Mexican Bean Wrap. The wonderful combination of flavours won the bakery chain a PETA Vegan Food Award, and there’s no doubt its new vegan option will be a winner, too.
Vegan foods are definitely on a (sausage) roll, and savvy supermarkets, restaurants, and other businesses are stepping up to meet the demand for animal-free versions of classic dishes that people love. If you’ve ever been the teeniest bit curious about going vegan, now is the ideal moment to try it.
