Is This the End of Spain’s Barbaric ‘Fire Bull’ Festival?

Great news – this year’s cruel “fire bull” festival in Spain has been cancelled!

Following a successful appeal filed by Spanish animal rights party PACMA in 2023, the Toro Júbilo has been deemed illegal, and the 2024 event has been subsequently suspended.

While this move is welcome, we will continue to campaign against this barbaric event until it is permanently banned.

Soria’s Barbaric ‘Fire Bull’ Festival

Each November, balls of pitch (a sticky, black substance made from coal tar or petroleum) are stuck onto the horns of a bull and set on fire.

The bull is then released onto the streets and can do nothing but run around in terror and pain, often smashing into walls in an attempt to douse the fire. The agony he must endure is unimaginable. These fiery balls can remain alight for hours, burning his horns, eyes, and body and causing him tremendous stress – all while spectators cheer and run around him.

What You Can Do

When we speak out against cruel events such as the Toro Júbilo, we create real change for animals. Please send a message to Spanish officials now and urge them to end the “fire bull” festival once and for all:
