Chrissie Hynde’s Bold Message to Meat-Eaters: ‘Don’t Pretend!’
Chrissie Hynde has gotta have some of your attention, Pompey! As she prepares to kick off The Pretenders’ 2024 UK tour in Portsmouth on Friday, the iconic lead vocalist and longtime PETA patron has delivered a message of love to the city – which is among those in the UK that are packed with the most burger joints per capita – in behalf of animals. Don’t Pretend!
Behind every burger is a once-living being who felt pain and fear, valued their life, and didn’t want to be ground up and turned into meat any more than you would.
“The animal you’re eating wanted his life just as much as you want yours. Don’t pretend any different!”
– Chrissie Hynde
Each year, millions of cows are hauled to abattoirs, where workers shoot them in the head with a captive-bolt gun, hang them up by the leg, and cut their throat – sometimes while they’re still conscious.
Ditching meat is also one of the best things that you can do for the environment and your health. Going vegan can reduce your carbon footprint from food by up to 73% and decrease your chances of suffering from coronary heart disease, high blood pressure, diabetes, and cancer.
Break the Dirty Habit
Ditching meat is as easy as ordering a plant burger instead of one made of animal flesh. Most of your favourite restaurants likely already have vegan burgers on the menu, and your local supermarkets’ shelves are packed with succulent patties that are good for animals and taste great, including THIS Isn’t Beef burgers, Co-op GRO’s The Incredible Burger, and Meatless Farm’s plant-based burgers.
