The UK’s Best Chicken Competition
PETA’s first-ever Best Chicken Competition is open for submissions from loving chicken guardians across the UK and Ireland. The new contest seeks to showcase chickens’ personalities, special skills, and overall cuteness – and to signal that they should be protected and adored, not killed and consumed.
The Prize
The winning chicken will receive toys and treats – and the winner’s guardian will receive a prize pack that includes a PETA T-shirt and a BOSH! vegan cookbook (plus bragging rights, of course).
A Celebration of Individuals
Chickens value their lives and deserve dignity and compassion, not the abattoir knife. PETA invites anyone with a chicken who rules their roost to enter this contest and help the public see these specktacular birds in a new light.
The Suffering of Chickens on Farms
Chickens can recognise the faces of more than 100 other chickens, communicate with at least 24 unique vocalisations, establish complex social hierarchies, and roost together companionably. Yet chickens killed for their flesh are crammed into filthy sheds, where they’re forced to live in their waste – and the runoff from these operations pollutes the environment and poisons local wildlife. At abattoirs, chickens’ throats are often cut while they’re still conscious, and many are scalded to death in de-feathering tanks.
Contest Details
Competition entrants must be UK or Ireland residents and guardians of a chicken (or multiple chickens) who lives as an animal companion. A photo or video submission is required. All entries must be submitted by 5 p.m. UK time on 7 March 2025. PETA will contact the finalists and announce them on peta.org.uk by 17 March. Finalists will be chosen based on the answers provided in the submission. Voting will then open to the public to help PETA determine who should be selected as the winner. PETA will choose a winner based on the number of votes received and the information provided in the entrant’s form. The winner will be announced on peta.org.uk by 31 March.
The winner will receive toys and treats – and the winner’s guardian will receive a prize pack that includes a PETA T-shirt and a BOSH! vegan cookbook.
Open to residents of the United Kingdom and the Republic of Ireland only. Entrants must be 18 years old on the day of application. Void where prohibited by law. No purchase is necessary. By submitting your entry, you acknowledge that you have read and agree to our contest terms and conditions (PETA.org.uk/Contest) and our privacy policy (PETA.org.uk/Privacy). High-resolution photos or videos are required. Images must be sharp, well-lit, not blurry or fuzzy, and no social media filters are allowed. Only the entrant should appear in each photo submitted. If you make it through to the final, we’ll publish your chicken’s photo and a short bio on our website, and members of the public will vote to help PETA decide who should choose the winner. So be sure your chicken’s photos stand out!
