Red Alert! PETA Calls On Mansfield Residents to Keep Cats Indoors

Mansfield, East Midlands – Up to eight cats went missing and were later found dead in and around fields off Sherwood Avenue in Mansfield, Nottinghamshire, and PETA is responding with a red alert, calling on all residents in the area to keep cats indoors.

In addition to risking being injured – either by accident or by the cruel and deliberate actions of callous people – cats who are allowed to roam outdoors are in danger of ingesting poison, contracting fatal diseases, becoming lost, and facing many other hazards.

“These tragic deaths are a reminder that it’s never safe to let our animal companions roam outdoors unattended,” says PETA Vice President of Programmes Elisa Allen. “Cats count on us to protect them, and the best way to do that is by keeping them safe indoors.”

The RSPCA urges anyone with firsthand information about these incidents to call its appeals line on 0300 123 8018 and quote incident number 01360425.

PETA – whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to abuse in any way” – notes that the best way to maintain cats’ health and safety is to keep them inside with plenty of toys and catnip, a clean litter tray, and an easily accessible cat scratcher.
