UDDERly Gross: PETA Activists Suck ‘Milk’ From ‘Cow’s Udder’
People strolling through Marble Arch in London today got an eyeful as PETA activists sucked “milk” from the udder of a life-size cow statue – a disturbing but effective demonstration to protest against the cruel dairy industry, which forcibly impregnates cows and then takes their calves away so that humans can drink the milk that was meant for these babies.
Alongside the activists, signs reading, “Looks Weird, Right? That’s Because It Is! Ditch Dairy. Please, Choose Vegan,” and “Not Your Mum? Not Your Milk!” highlighted how unnatural it is to drink the milk of another species.
Animal rights activist Jamie Logan, who made headlines last year after crashing Coach’s runway show during New York Fashion Week, took part in the action. Logan engaged with passers-by and encouraged Londoners to choose delicious plant-based milks rather than guzzling the mammary secretions of a mother cow that are made to feed her baby.
Cows Exploited as Milk Machines
The truth behind the dairy industry is horrifying. Cows exploited for their milk are artificially inseminated and their calves are taken from them within 24 hours – all so their milk can be sold and consumed by humans instead. Mother cows often bellow and call out frantically for their young for several days afterwards. Once their bodies give out as a result of the strain of numerous pregnancies, they are slaughtered for meat.
Male Calves Shot in the Head
While female cows endure the same fate as their mothers, male calves are considered a by-product by the dairy industry. They may be shot in the head soon after birth or sentenced to a short, miserable life before being killed and carved up for veal.
