Lily Allen Receives Mechanical Dog From PETA – ‘It’s the Only Animal You Should Bring Into Your Home,’ Group Says
London / New York – After Lily Allen casually spoke of dumping her adopted dog, Mary, back at an animal shelter because she had chewed her family’s passports on the latest episode of her Miss Me? podcast, PETA fired off a pointed letter calling out the singer for abandoning her dog. And because Allen said she would soon plan to acquire another dog, the group is also sending her a mechanical toy dog with this message: “It really is the only animal you should bring into your home.”

“While you could get new passports and rebook your flights, Mary may spend many months in the shelter waiting for a new family – if she’s lucky enough to find one at all,” writes PETA Vice President Elisa Allen in her letter to Lily. “Dogs should never be treated as accessories to be discarded when they become inconvenient.”
PETA – whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to abuse in any way” – notes that every year, hundreds of thousands of dogs and cats end up in shelters and many of them have to be euthanised simply because there aren’t enough good homes for them. The group points out that life with an animal companion can be extremely rewarding, but it’s also a huge responsibility that takes time, resources, patience, and commitment.
