PETA to Exeter Locals: ‘Not Your Mum, Not Your Milk’

Ahead of World Milk Day (1 June), PETA activists dressed as giant babies highlighted how cruel and unnatural it is to drink cows’ milk, which is meant for their babies. Because of Devon’s long history of dairy farming – it is home to 39% of the cows used for dairy in England – activists handed out free samples of Alpro’s strawberry soya milk in Exeter, encouraging people to go vegan to spare animals a miserable life and a terrifying death.

The Cruel Origins of Yogurt

Like all mammals, cows need to have recently been pregnant in order to produce milk. To ensure they are constantly lactating, cows are artificially inseminated and give birth once a year.

Shortly after birth, calves are torn away from their mothers so that the mammary secretions meant for them can be sold to humans as milk, yogurt, cream, or cheese. Mother and baby grieve for days, calling out for each other in vain.

Female calves will follow in their mothers’ footsteps, entering into an endless cycle of misery, and male calves – who are not considered useful to the dairy industry – may be shot in the head soon after birth or sentenced to a short, miserable life before being killed and carved up for veal.

Choose Soya, Oat, or Other Plant Milk

It’s absurd for any human to guzzle the mammary secretions of a cow, which are meant for feeding her baby.

Please leave cows’ milk for calves and opt instead for delicious soya, oat, or nut milk.
