‘Go Vegan or We All Die’: PETA Drops Banner From Trent Bridge for Earth Day

Nottingham – Today, in honour of Earth Day, PETA supporters surprised Nottingham locals by unfurling a giant banner off Trent Bridge, reading, “Go Vegan or We All Die.” The message, aimed at the city council – which pledges to make Nottingham the first carbon-neutral city in the UK by 2028 yet makes no mention of eating more vegan foods in its policies – also encouraged members of the public to change their eating habits if they care about the planet.

“A plan to go carbon neutral that doesn’t address the impact of animal agriculture is just hot air,” says PETA Senior Campaigns Manager Kate Werner. “PETA is asking everyone to take personal responsibility for the climate catastrophe by going vegan, and we have free vegan starter kits for all looking to make the switch.”

The United Nations states that animal agriculture is responsible for nearly a fifth of human-induced greenhouse gas emissions and that raising animals for food is “one of the top two or three most significant contributors to the most serious environmental problems, at every scale from local to global”. Widespread adoption of vegan eating could cut global greenhouse gas emissions by 70% by 2050 in addition to preventing animals from suffering on filthy factory farms before their throats are slit at slaughterhouses.

PETA – whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to eat” – opposes speciesism, a human-supremacist worldview.
