‘Survival at Stake’ Prescribes Respecting Animals to Fend Off Human Extinction
London – Survival at Stake: How Our Treatment of Animals Is Key to Human Existence is a new book by PETA Senior Vice President of International Affairs Poorva Joshipura, exploring how major crises affecting us right now – including pandemics; antibiotic resistance; the climate catastrophe; and polluted air, water, and soil – are inextricably linked to our treatment of animals. With a foreword by United Nations Secretary-General Advocate for Sustainable Development Goals Dia Mirza, the book provides readers with a roadmap for changing these destructive patterns. It’s been released today (23 November) by HarperCollins.
Joshipura warns about bird flu and swine flu threats in the US and around the world and shows how antibiotic resistance stems from factory farming and SARS and COVID-19 likely originated in wildlife markets in Asia. She also highlights how the climate catastrophe, pollution, and species extinction are linked to meat, egg, dairy, and leather production. Survival at Stake is essential reading for anyone who cares about other species – or the fate of their own.
