Will Miss Great Britain Go Vegan Following PETA Plea?

Leicester – Ahead of the Miss Great Britain National Final on 20 October, PETA sent a letter to the pageant’s organisers calling on them to uphold its ethos of “integrity and compassion” by serving a fully vegan meal at the event.

In its letter, PETA points out that animal agriculture is entirely reliant on female exploitation, as female animals are confined, forcibly impregnated, and killed so their legs, breasts, ovulation markers, and breast milk can be sold for human consumption. Excluding such products from the event’s menu would make a powerful statement about the pageant’s support of all females and their right to body autonomy.

“Cows are wonderful mothers who, like us, carry their baby for nine months and breastfeed, developing a strong bond. On dairy farms, they’re forcibly, repeatedly impregnated and their babies are removed so that humans can consume the cow’s milk,” writes PETA Vice President of Programmes Elisa Allen. “The Miss Great Britain Organisation could be crowned a champion of all females simply by offering delicious vegan fare.”

Everyone who goes vegan spares nearly 200 animals a year; reduces their risk of developing heart disease, diabetes, and cancer; and dramatically shrinks their carbon footprint. According to the United Nations, a global shift towards vegan eating is necessary to combat the worst effects of the climate catastrophe. PETA offers a free vegan starter kit for anyone ready to make the switch.

PETA – whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to eat” – opposes speciesism, a human-supremacist worldview. For more information, please visit PETA.org.uk or follow the group on Facebook, X (formerly Twitter), TikTok, or Instagram.
