Swansea Eatery Makes PETA’s List of the UK’s Top 10 Spots Serving Vegan Japanese Food

Swansea – As Brits’ taste for Japanese food and interest in sustainable eating are on the rise, to help locals find sushi options that respect sea life and keep oceans healthy, PETA is naming Swansea-based eatery Nishimura one of its best spots for vegan Japanese food in the UK.

The restaurant boasts a colourful vegan sushi menu and animal-friendly versions of traditional Japanese foods, such as vegetable futomaki seaweed rolls, sweet potato tempura, and Green Dragon uramaki “inside-out” rolls. Standouts include the vegan-friendly sushi platter, pumpkin katsu udon noodle soup, and cucumber, avocado, and yellow pickle temaki.

“From the inari tofu nigiri to the vegetable ramen, Nishimura’s vegan options bring the flavours of Japanese cuisine and protect animals,” says PETA Director of Vegan Corporate Projects Dawn Carr. “PETA’s top 10 picks will delight any foodie who loves sushi but can’t stomach the violence and cruelty of commercial fishing.”

PETA points out that killing “bycatch” – non-target marine animals who are accidentally caught in fishing nets – is one of the biggest threats to marine biodiversity worldwide and has resulted in widespread species extinction, habitat destruction, and irreversible damage to ocean ecosystems. Each person who goes vegan spares the lives of nearly 200 animals every year, including fish, who are known to feel pain as acutely as pigs or chickens, have long-term memories, are able to recognise themselves in a mirror, and can communicate with each other using low-frequency sounds that humans can hear only with special instruments.
