On Site Events Drops Running of the Bulls Tour After PETA Push

Fordingbridge, Hampshire – After hearing from PETA, travel company On Site Events has stopped offering its tour to Spain’s annual San Fermín festival, where bulls are chased down local streets and later stabbed to death as part of the Running of the Bulls spectacle.

“Sadistic bloodbaths don’t belong on anyone’s travel itinerary, so On Site Events made the compassionate choice to drop San Fermín tours,” says PETA Corporate Projects Manager Dr Carys Bennett. “PETA is applauding the company for taking a stand against the cruelty of the Running of the Bulls.”

More than 125 Spanish towns and cities have rejected the torment and butchering of bulls for entertainment, but in Pamplona, the atrocities continue. Every year, bulls are subjected to confusion and terror as they’re chased by a mob, risking injury from crashing into barriers and walls, falling and breaking their legs, or colliding with each other during the bull run. Once in the bullring, the bulls are taunted and stabbed with a lance and several harpoon-like banderillas before the matador stabs the exhausted animal with a sword.

ABTA, the leading trade association for the UK travel sector, lists bullfighting as “unacceptable” under its animal welfare guidelines, and the majority of travel companies – including The Travel Corporation, Club Med, and G Adventures – stopped all promotion of bullfighting in recent years.
