PETA to Michael ‘Bully Boy’ Smith: Give Vegan a Shot and We’ll Rename a Rescued Bull in Your Honour

London – After learning that Michael “Bully Boy” Smith plans to use his PDC World Darts Championship prize money to buy a bull he’ll call Ferdinand, PETA is offering to help the winner hit his target and benefit animals at the same time. This morning, the group rushed off a letter to Smith, promising to rename a rescued bull Ferdinand if the darts champion goes vegan for a month.

“Whether they’re slaughtered for their flesh or skin, forced to pull heavy carts, or tortured and killed in bullfights, bulls face extreme cruelty all over the world – and they need kind people like you to help them,” writes PETA Vice President of Programmes Elisa Allen. “By taking us up on our offer, you’d be known internationally not only as a darts champion but also as a champion for bulls.”

In its letter, the group notes that vegan eating is popular among top-performing athletes, including Lewis Hamilton and Novak Djokovic, and that slashing meat, eggs, and dairy reduces a person’s risk of developing heart disease and other ailments. Planetary health benefits, too: “Eating vegan can also reduce a person’s food-related carbon footprint by a whopping 73%.”

PETA – whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to eat” and which opposes speciesism, a human-supremacist worldview – offers a free vegan starter kit filled with tips, recipes, and more on its website.
