Evanna Lynch Blasts EU Agency for Demanding ‘Horrific’ Cosmetics Ingredients Tests on Animals

Dublin – Actor and animal rights advocate Evanna Lynch is supporting the Save Cruelty Free Cosmetics European Citizens’ Initiative, a campaign started by PETA entities as well as Dove, The Body Shop, and more than 100 animal protection organisations to call on the European Union (EU) to uphold and strengthen its ban on animal testing for cosmetics.

“Pregnant rabbits are repeatedly force-fed cosmetics ingredients. Then they’re killed, and they and their unborn babies are dissected,” says Lynch in her post, which described the requirement as “horrific”. By signing the ECI, EU citizens can vote for the kind of world they want to live in, and as Lynch goes on to say, “Hopefully, like me, you want a world in which animals don’t suffer and die for beauty products.”

Despite bans on testing cosmetics on animals, thousands of animals are still being forced to inhale or ingest cosmetics ingredients required by the European Chemicals Agency. The EU’s animal testing ban – which set a global precedent – is being rendered useless because of new requirements for avoidable animal tests for ingredients that have been safely used for years.

The ingredients flagged for additional testing are marketed globally and will therefore impact everyone’s ability to buy cruelty-free products, unless we act now. To be successful, the initiative needs the support of 1 million EU citizens – regardless of where they live – so this message must be shared around the world.
