Cam Newton Is ‘Built Like a Vegan’ in New PETA US Campaign
Patriots Quarterback Powers Up on Vegan Fuel Ahead of American Football Season
London – Fresh off signing a one-year deal with the New England Patriots, Cam Newton stars in a new vegan campaign for PETA US that shows him standing strong in an American football jersey and proclaims, “Built Like a Vegan”.
“A person may ask, ‘How do you get your protein?’ …. You get it in the same way that they get it – know what I’m saying? The more cleaner, more fresher way,” says Newton in an accompanying video spot, which shows him assembling a vegan burger on a pretzel bun brimming with guacamole and extra pickles before generously sharing it with his kids, who loved it!
The star also shares that he’s more ready than ever to hit the field: “I’ve seen such a remarkable change in the way my body responds to the food that I eat.”
PETA – whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to eat” – points out that going vegan would give sports fans the opportunity to enjoy many more matches, as cutting out animal-derived foods lowers the risk of suffering from heart disease, diabetes, cancer, obesity, and numerous other life-shortening health concerns. Each person who goes vegan also dramatically reduces his or her carbon footprint – and spares nearly 200 animals every year daily suffering and a terrifying death in today’s meat, egg, and dairy industries.
Newton is part of a growing list of athletes – Including fellow American football star Tyrann Mathieu, British footballer Chris Smalling, boxing world champion David Haye, and pro wrestler Zack Sabre Jr – who’ve teamed up with PETA and its affiliates to promote kindness to animals.
PETA – which opposes speciesism, a human-supremacist worldview – offers a free vegan starter kit (available here) full of recipes, tips, and more. For more information on helping animals, please visit PETA.org.uk.
