Frequently Asked Questions
How do I take part?
To take part, simply sign up here and we’ll send you a welcome e-mail with the next steps, which include setting up your JustGiving page, choosing your fundraising target, and sharing your challenge with your friends and family. Then, it’s time to get moving.
Is there a registration fee?
No. As this is a virtual event, it’s completely free to take part. But we encourage you to raise as much as possible to benefit PETA’s work for animals.
If you raise £50 or more, you’ll receive a PETA recipe booklet as a thank you. If you raise £100 or more, we’ll send you the recipe booklet and a Marathon for Animals medal. Raise £150 or more and you’ll get all that plus an exclusive PETA running top.
When does the event take place?
The event runs throughout August, and you can cover the 26.2 miles at your own pace, in your own time, before the end of the month.
What activities can I do?
You can take part in any self-powered activity as long as it’s safe (and legal, of course!). You can skate the 26.2 miles, roll them in a wheelchair, pogo them, hop them, hula-hoop them … you name it.
Where do I do it?
You can cover the 26.2 miles anywhere you like, so long as you keep yourself and others safe. Remember to respect current social-distancing guidelines as laid out by the government.
Can we take part as a team?
Absolutely. Team challenges are a great way of having fun with your friends, and having the support of a team can go a long way towards helping you smash your fundraising target and reach the finishing line.
You can either split the 26.2 miles between team members or each complete the full distance.
How do I fundraise?
Once you’ve signed up, set up your JustGiving fundraising page here. If you get stuck, drop us an e-mail at [email protected] and we’ll be happy to take you through the steps.
Once you’ve set up your page and chosen a fundraising target, spread the word – and share your JustGiving page – far and wide. Remember to tell your friends and family why you’re taking on the challenge and how much it means to you.
We’ll be providing fundraising tips throughout the challenge, but if you have any questions in the meantime, please get in touch at [email protected].
How much should I raise?
You can raise however much you like! Remember: the more you raise, the more you’ll be boosting our effective campaigns to establish and protect the rights of all animals. And we’ve got some extra-special thank-you gifts in store:
- Raise £50 or more and we’ll send you PETA’s recipe booklet full of vegan delights.
- Raise £100 or more and you’ll receive the recipe booklet plus a Marathon for Animals medal.
- Raise £150 or more to get the recipe booklet, the medal, AND your very own exclusive PETA Pack running top.
Given the current circumstances, it may take longer than usual for us to get your gift to you, so thank you for your patience.
How are the funds used?
PETA’s work relies entirely on donations, and every penny you raise will go towards our campaigns to establish and protect the rights of all animals. We achieve this in many ways, including through public education, research, pushing for legislative change, special events, celebrity involvement, and protest campaigns that raise awareness of animal exploitation and pressure governments, companies, and individuals to end it. To find out more about our work, visit PETA.org.uk.
How do I pay my funds in?
By raising money through JustGiving, your funds will automatically be transferred to PETA, so you don’t need to do anything. If you raise funds in another way, drop us an e-mail at [email protected] and we’ll be happy to help.
I have reduced mobility – can I still take part?
Absolutely. We encourage everyone to take part. If you can’t cover 26.2 miles in a month, consider inviting friends to join you in forming a team and splitting the distance amongst you.
What happens if I signed up but can no longer take part?
If you’re no longer able to take part in PETA’s Marathon for Animals for whatever reason, please get in touch with us at [email protected].
