Giant ‘Celery’ ‘Stalks’ Politicians With Vegan Message
As Danny and Michael Healy-Rae cast their ballots in Ireland’s general election, PETA’s “celery” was nearby stalking the politicians, brandishing a sign stressing that climate change is real, it’s an emergency, and we can all fight it by going vegan.
The Healy-Rae brothers have received widespread criticism for their stance on climate change. As the world faces historic droughts, floods, and wildfires, PETA is calling on politicians – and the public – to stop ignoring animal agriculture’s connection to catastrophic climate change and go vegan before it’s too late.
The meat industry torments and kills animals while spewing out contaminants that are destroying our planet.
Go Vegan for the Earth
A recent analysis of the food industry’s impact on the environment concluded that to reduce the disastrous effects of climate change, a massive reduction in meat-eating is essential, including cutting beef consumption by 90% and dairy milk consumption by 60% in Western countries.
More than 80% of the Amazon rainforest that’s been cleared since 1970 is used for meat production, which is a major contributor to pollution, land degradation, water shortages, and habitat destruction.
Animal agriculture alone is responsible for nearly one-fifth of human-induced greenhouse-gas emissions.
Go Vegan for Animals
Going vegan also spares animals daily suffering and a terrifying death in today’s meat, egg, and dairy industries, in which females are repeatedly forcibly impregnated and babies are torn away from their mothers, mutilated, and kept in filthy and severely crowded conditions.
Then, often when they’re only a few months old, animals endure a stressful and terrifying trip to the abattoir, where many are killed while still conscious.
What You Can Do
Going vegan is easier than ever, and PETA is here to help you every step of the way:
PETA does not endorse or oppose any candidate or political party for public office.
