FRAY BENTOS, LEON, CARLUCCIO ‘S AND COSTA AMONG WINNERS OF 2019 VEGAN FOOD AWARDS
PETA Honours the Best of the Best on the UK Food Scene
London – As the number of vegans in the UK is reportedly set to skyrocket by 327% by next year, PETA is recognising the most exciting vegan offerings on the market today with its seventh annual Vegan Food Awards.
Twenty-four categories are included in this year’s awards, and here are just some of the delicious winners:
- Launch of the Year: Greggs Vegan Sausage Roll
- Best Vegan Burger: LEON The Love Burger
- Best Vegan Sandwich: Caffè Nero Sundried Tomato & Pesto Tostati
- Best Vegan Pie: Exclusively launched by PETA‘s 2019 Vegan Food Awards, Fray Bentos Vegan Steak and Kidney Bean pie
- Best Vegan Dessert: Bella Italia Vegan Cookie Dough Al Forno
- Best Vegan Pizza: Also exclusively launched by PETA‘s 2019 Vegan Food Awards, Zizzi Jackfruit Italian Hot
Other winners include Carluccio’s (Best Vegan Pastry), Starbucks (Best Vegan Mac and Cheese), Costa (Best Vegan Cookie), Wagamama (Best Vegan Cake), Aldi (Best Vegan Ready Meal), and Sainsbury’s (Best Vegan Sausage).
“Growing concerns about health, the environment, and animal suffering are driving more and more people to choose vegan options,” says PETA Director of Vegan Corporate Projects Dawn Carr. “The forward-thinking businesses we’ve honoured this year have all responded to the booming demand with delicious, plant-based foods that appeal to vegans and meat-eaters alike.”
PETA – whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to eat” – notes that Luckily, one-third of Britons have already reduced their meat intake or stopped consuming meat entirely, and polls show that vegan meals are the most popular takeaway trend in the UK. Each person who goes vegan spares the lives of nearly 200 animals each year and lowers his or her risk of suffering from heart disease, strokes, diabetes, obesity, and cancer.
PETA opposes speciesism, a human-supremacist worldview. A copy of the group’s Vegan Food Awards logo is available here, and high-resolution images are available upon request. For the complete list of winners, please visit PETA.org.uk.
