David Mitchell Discusses Veganism and Questions Meat-Eating
After reading David Mitchell’s opinion piece about veganism, PETA sent the Peep Show star a vegan hamper filled to the brim with vegan sausages.
In the piece, Mitchell says that he will continue eating meat because of his love for sausages and dislike of change, but, luckily, he doesn’t have to worry about either of those things when it comes to veganism. Veganism isn’t about giving anything up, it’s about opting for the compassionate option.
“The thing that’s annoying about there suddenly being lots of them is the nagging suspicion that they might be right. When there were hardly any vegans, I hardly ever had to think about that…” – #DavidMitchell#vegan #vegancommunity #plantbased pic.twitter.com/YVI1osJzDi

PETA hopes Mitchell will see just how easy making the switch is, and also enjoy the plethora of plant-based goodies available on the market.
As he said:
It’s not uncommon, in the history of human societies, for things once deemed normal to start being deemed wrong. Sometimes it’s something like homophobia, sometimes it’s something like openly criticising those in power – it depends on the time and the society. Maybe all these vegans are harbingers of such a change.
Why Vegan?
The meat, fishing, egg, and dairy industries are a nightmare for animals, who are treated like a collection of body parts rather than sentient individuals who have the ability to feel pain, fear, and joy.
All animals reared for food suffer. Females are repeatedly forcibly impregnated. Babies are torn away from their mothers, mutilated, kept in filthy and severely crowded conditions, and fed a cocktail of drugs, sometimes causing their bodies to become oversized, resulting in numerous health problems. Then, often when they’re only a few months old, they endure a stressful and terrifying trip to the abattoir, where many are killed while still conscious.
