Enough ‘True Blood’ for Cosmetics Testing

Showing that she’s far from cold-hearted, True Blood star Kristin Bauer has written to the European Commission to ask that it preserve the current planned date of 2013 for banning the sale of animal-tested cosmetics and toiletries in the European Union. With the European Commission poised to make an announcement on the deadline this year, now is a critical time to apply pressure on them. We blogged a few months ago about a backward-looking scientific report which increases the risk the Commission will propose postponing the deadline, perhaps even indefinitely.

Kristin worked with the excellent US medical advocacy group Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine (PCRM) to publicise her letter. But why are US celebrities and groups taking an interest in this EU issue? Because the EU ban applies to products wherever the animal testing has been done and will motivate all US companies that want to sell their products in the EU to stop animal testing. Thanks a million to PCRM and Kristin for supporting this important campaign.

Please contact the relevant European Commissioner to ask that the Commission leave the 2013 deadline in place.
