PETA ‘Goose’ Protests Opening of Flagship Canada Goose Store on London’s Regent Street

Within minutes of opening its first European flagship store in London, Canada Goose saw its first protesters. Accompanied by a giant “goose” and holding signs reading, “Geese Suffer for Canada Goose,” PETA members staged a peaceful demonstration outside the Regent Street store, calling on consumers to refuse to buy the brand’s cruelly produced coats.

“PETA encourages compassionate consumers to stay away from this store – which stocks its shelves with items made with the fur and feathers of animals who endured violent deaths,” says PETA Director Elisa Allen. “With so many stylish and warm materials available that aren’t derived from animals, there’s no excuse to choose cruelty.”

The protest follows the release of a new PETA exposé, which reveals that gentle geese are grabbed by the neck and crammed into tiny, filthy cages – where they may be left overnight with no food or water – before their throats are slit and their feathers yanked out to stuff Canada Goose items. Many styles also come with fur trim, for which coyotes are caught in the wild in steel traps, where they can languish for days before being shot or bludgeoned to death. The action is part of PETA’s campaign urging Canada Goose to ditch down and fur and switch to innovative, cruelty-free materials.
