VIDEO: CANNIBALISM, FILTH, AND DEATH AT UK ‘FREE-RANGE’ EGG FARM

PETA Exposé Reveals Why the Only Cruelty-Free Label Is ‘Vegan’

London – PETA has obtained eyewitness video footage (available here) of shocking conditions on a “free-range” British egg farm Cambridgeshire. As is typical for “free-range” facilities, the chickens were crammed not into cages but into dark, filthy, crowded sheds, where many lose their feathers as a result of ammonia burns and stress. Birds who die are left to rot, and others resort to cannibalism in the distressing, squalid living conditions.

Photos are available here, here and here.

“Shoppers will no doubt be horrified to learn that ‘free-range’ hens are frequently denied the opportunity to breathe fresh air or feel the warmth of the sun on their backs”, says PETA Director Elisa Allen. “The ‘free-range’ label is designed to make consumers – not animals – feel better. The only cruelty-free meal is a vegan one.”

PETA – whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to eat” – notes that chickens are curious, active animals who, in nature, would spend their time foraging, exploring, and taking dust baths. But on farms, even so-called ‘free-range’ or ‘organic’ ones, they’re often prevented from engaging in these natural forms of behaviour. And when their worn-out bodies can no longer produce enough eggs to be profitable, they’re sent to slaughter, often to be turned into “low-grade” meat because their flesh is so bruised and battered.

PETA further notes that diets heavy in cholesterol and saturated fat, both of which are found in eggs, can increase a person’s risk of falling victim to many of the UK’s top killers, including heart attacks, strokes, and diabetes.
