SUFFOLK CHICKEN FARM CRUELTY EXPOSED
Photos Show Stressed Birds Crammed Into a Shed Among Rotting Corpses
Suffolk – PETA has obtained eyewitness photos of horrific conditions in a broiler chicken farm in Suffolk. The photos, taken in Great Ashfield, show chickens packed into a shed so tightly that they can barely spread even a single wing. Many appear to have lost feathers because of stress, inadequate nutrition, or injuries inflicted by other frustrated birds. Inside the shed, the body of a dead and rotting chicken is left inside the food convey machine, while outside, bins full of birds who didn’t make it to the abattoir have been left covered with maggots.
Exposé photos are available here, here, here, and here.
“Countless exposés of British factory farms reveal the same thing: sick, miserable, and dying animals who are treated like inanimate objects, not as living beings deserving of care. The suffering exposed in these most recent pictures is not the exception – it’s most certainly the rule”, says PETA Director Elisa Allen. “PETA urges everyone to help stop cruelty to chickens by choosing vegan meals.”
PETA – whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to eat” – notes that chickens on today’s factory farms are bred to grow so large that their bodies often cannot support their abnormal weight, leaving some unable to stand, let alone walk. Many also sustain broken wings and legs when they’re shoved into crates to be transported to the abattoir, where they’ll spend their final moments shackled upside down in terror before their throats are cut.
More exposé photos are available on request. For more information, including vegan recipes, please visit PETA.org.uk.
