Vegan Christmas Meals Delivered to Londoners in Need
Christmas should be a joyful time for everyone – turkeys and humans alike. To help spread holiday cheer this year, PETA and Tofurky made a special delivery.
We donated delicious, protein-packed vegan roasts to AMURT UK, a grassroots community development organisation, to help it serve up to 250 warm, healthy, and humane meals to people in need this festive season.
The centrepiece of a Christmas dinner is often a hearty roast, and by choosing a vegan option, you’ll ensure that the holidays really are a time of goodwill to all.
In the wild, turkeys can live up to 10 years, but those killed for food are normally slaughtered at between 12 and 26 weeks of age. The young birds are hung from metal shackles by their feet and dragged through an electrified bath that can cause them to have full-body tremors. Sometimes, they’re still conscious when their throats are slit and they’re placed into scalding-hot water to remove their feathers.
There’s no need for a turkey to suffer when so many great alternatives are readily available.
