UPDATE: Dutch Ban on Breeding and Killing Minks for Fur Has Been Upheld

Good news for minks in the Netherlands! The Supreme Court of the Netherlands has announced that the mink farm ban will be upheld.

In 2013, the Dutch government tried to ban fur farms on the grounds that killing animals for their fur is “not ethically defensible”. But implementation has been held up by persistent appeals from fur farmers. The Supreme Court’s ruling this month should make it clear that the barbaric mink fur industry must be shut down and that fur farmers must close their facilities by 2024.

The Netherlands has around 160 fur farms that kill approximately 5 million minks a year. On fur farms, normally free-roaming animals are condemned to spend their entire lives confined to tiny, filthy wire cages. Unable to engage in natural behaviour, they often go mad from frustration before they’re gassed or electrocuted. There is no justification for keeping this violent, bloody industry afloat, as it condemns animals to a hellish life and a horrible death while also polluting our land and water.

Over the years, thousands of PETA Netherlands supporters have spoken out against the fur industry, and the Supreme Court’s ruling is a victory for both compassionate Hollanders and the minks whose skin won’t be torn off their tiny backs. But other animals need your help.

Fur farming has long been illegal in the UK, but it still shamefully continues in other European countries, including Ireland. Ask the Irish government to follow the Netherlands’ lead by bringing in a ban:
