A Guide to Eating Vegan in Cardiff

For the latest instalment in our series of vegan city guides, we headed to Cardiff, Wales, to discover where people go to find delicious meat-free food.

These are our top picks for vegan-friendly spots in the Welsh capital:

This all vegan cafe opened up in 2015, offering delicious plant-based meals in a relaxed and friendly environment. Their breakfast menu looks particularly tasty!

Milgi

Milgi are 100 per cent vegetarian and offer plenty of vegan options. Suitable for brunch, lunch, dinner or drinks, this hip eatery celebrate “the benefits and satisfactions that eating seasonal, tasty homecooked vegetarian food can have”. Aside from offering a variety of options, including pancakes, pizza and platters, Milgi also hold music nights and have an art gallery.

Cafe Atma

Cafe Atma are a popular and affordable eatery set up and run by Hare Krishna monks, who are very friendly staff. This café serve breakfast foods, along with Indian and Pakistani dishes, soul food, cakes and coffee – all of which is either vegan or vegetarian. The monks also hold regular yoga and meditation classes.

Simply V Cardiff

This all-vegan store is a one-stop shop for stocking up on animal-friendly groceries, clothing and toiletries. They also offer a tempting selection of handmade vegan cakes and sandwiches.

Clancy’s Vegetarian Emporium

Established in 2013, this inexpensive vegan-friendly market stall are located under the clock at the Cardiff Market (which can be accessed from St Mary Street). This take-out only store offer both Indian and Western-style food, and they also sell a wide variety of herbs and spices.

Crumbs Kitchen

Crumbs Kitchen are a cosy vegetarian restaurant located on Morgan Arcade that are known for their healthy soups, salads, curries and chilli. They’re open for breakfast and lunch and serve coffee, desserts and chilled drinks.

Vegetarian Food Studio

This family-run restaurant are just a short walk from the city’s centre and offer mouth-watering traditional Indian cuisine as well as event catering, a sweet mart and a tiffin service.

Falafel-Kitchen

With a wide variety of vegetarian options, the Falafel-Kitchen offer eat-in and takeaway service. Some of our favourite menu options include the schnitzel, the veggie shawarma and the meze platter.

Canteen on Clifton Street

Most of the menu options are vegan-friendly at this much-loved Cardiff eatery, which serve up a changing menu of imaginative and seasonal global cuisine.

Golden House Chinese Takeaway

This takeaway service have regular vegetarian options on their menu and even offer a tasty meat-free alternative to aromatic duck for just £6.50.
