Founder of Energy Firm Calls On Last Remaining Airline to Stop Transporting Primates to Labs
Air France are the only airline still transporting monkeys to laboratories, where they’re caged, experimented on and killed. Many celebrities, including Peter Gabriel, Dr Jane Goodall, Chris Packham and James Cromwell, have spoken out against Air France’s cruelty to primates – and now, a leader from the business world joins them.
Dale Vince, OBE, founder and managing director of energy company Ecotricity, fired off a letter to the airline calling on them to stop transporting monkeys to laboratories.
In his letter, he described the practice as sickening and explained that until Air France joins “every other major airline in the world in banning this practice, my company will operate a ‘no-fly policy’ with respect to Air France”.
Many of the monkeys Air France fly to laboratories have been snatched from the wild and torn away from their families or else raised on squalid factory farms. Crammed into tiny wooden crates and packed into the holds of passenger flights, they endure a dark and terrifying journey. After arrival, these animals are transported to facilities such as Shin Nippon Biomedical Laboratories and Covance in the US, where they face horrors such as mutilation, poisoning, food deprivation, infection with painful diseases and psychological torment.
