Los Angeles — “Brad Pitt, Kim Basinger, and David Duchovny are among the celebrities aiming to rescue thousands of homeless dogs now being gassed, starved, electrocuted, and beaten to death in Taiwan. In a PETA advertisement debuting in Tuesday’s Hollywood Reporter, the stars invite other influential entertainers to autograph a petition calling for the passage of Taiwan’s first-ever anti-cruelty law.
Spearheading the campaign is Steven Seagal, who considers Taiwan his “spiritual homeland.” The movie tough guy recently traveled to the island in order to meet with Premier Vincent Siew, whose support he solicited for the animal protection bill. Seagal also accompanied PETA’s co-founder, Alex Pacheco, on an inspection tour of a filthy pound in San Chung, on the outskirts of Taipei, where they witnessed cannibalism among starving dogs.
