Pizza Express Takes the Prize for Feeding Britain’s Growing Appetite for Healthy, Humane Food
London – In recognition of its outstanding commitment to providing customers with tasty vegan dishes, nation-wide chain Pizza Express has been named the “Best Vegan-Friendly National Food Chain” in PETA Europe’s second annual Proggy Awards. Pizza Express will receive a framed award and will be featured on PETA.org.uk. “Proggy” stands for “progress”, and the Proggy Awards recognise animal-friendly achievements in commerce and culture.
Pizza Express, a popular chain that has been “bringing the true tastes of Italy to the British high street” for more than 40 years, has found a way to make both animal lovers and pizza lovers happy with an ever-expanding menu of tasty vegan and vegetarian options. All its pizzas are available without cheese, and meals such as the Rustica Tomatoes, the Baked Dough Sticks and the Bosco Salad allow compassionate diners to clean their plates with a clear conscience.
“One trip to Pizza Express and customers leave with a whole new idea of what eating vegan means – and it certainly doesn’t mean missing out on tasty pizza”, says PETA’s Sarah Dickinson. “Pizza Express makes it fun and exciting to eat healthily and humanely, and this is our way of saying thanks.”
More than 25 Proggy Awards have been given out this year, and the winners include a tour operator, a city council, and independent producers and marketers of vegan foods and cruelty-free personal care products.
