London – People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals US’ (PETA) new political spoof, “Road to the Greenhouse”, pits Broccoli Obama, Celery Clinton, Mike Huckleberry, Dijon McCain, Mitt Ramen-y and a bunch of other high-fibre candidates against each other in a debate about one of the most important issues facing the US today: is it time to give peas a chance?
Featuring a cast of puppets made out of real vegetables and a peanut gallery to cheer them on, “Road to the Greenhouse” has some gentle fun with the politicians while driving home the point that Americans who are concerned about their health or the environment should consider adopting a vegetarian diet.
“Eating my veggies has not only caused a noticeable improvement in my health, but I was able to date and eventually marry a 29-year-old bombshell with a tongue stud”, says canned-idate Dennis KuSpinach.
“I, for one, know from experience that a Whopper at the drive-thru can lead directly to a flopper in the bedroom”, says Celery Clinton. “America’s women don’t ever want to have to be in the position of saying to their husbands, ‘Close, but no cigar’. The best thing for my husband is a healthy vegetarian diet.”
Even Alfalfa Gore makes an appearance – only to be taken to task by moderator George Lollipopoulos for failing to mention that the meat industry is the number one cause of global warming.
What does Broccoli Obama have to say about dividing the country into red fruits and blue fruits? Why does Fruity Giuliani keep bringing everything back to 7-11? Find out the answers to these and other questions in “Road to the Greenhouse” at PETA.org.
According to a 2006 United Nations report, raising animals for food emits 40 per cent more global-warming gases than all the cars, trucks, SUVs, planes and ships in the world combined. A recent study by the University of Chicago found that going vegan is 50 per cent more effective at fighting global warming than switching from a standard car to a hybrid.
The views expressed in this debate do not reflect the views of any real politicians – just a bunch of vegetables. PETA US does not oppose or endorse any candidate for public office or any political party. A candidate’s overall qualification for public office should not be judged based on his or her position on a few selected issues.
