Cardiff – In recognition of their kindness towards animals, local boy Jimmy Warbuton, 11, and his sister Billie, 14, have been given a Compassionate Kid Award by People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA).
Whilst visiting Nepal with their parents, who are travel photographers, Jimmy and Billie were overcome by the number of stray cats and dogs in the streets. Instead of spending their days sightseeing, they decided to forgo some of their own meals in order to give their food to the sick and starving street animals.
Eight years ago, Billie used the internet to research cruelty to animals on factory farms and has been vegetarian ever since. Her favourite vegetarian dish is spaghetti with Quorn and vegetables bursting with taste from her family’s very own allotment. The animal lovers have two border collies, Milo and Cassie, as well as a tortoise named Flashlight. Jimmy loves reading up on animals and spending time on the PETA website learning how he can help with their campaigns.
“Jimmy and Billie are living proof that you’re never too young to make a positive difference in the world”, says Robbie LeBlanc, director of PETA Europe. “Their compassion for animals and determination to create a better world for them is a wonderful and inspirational example for other kids – and adults – to follow.”
Jimmy and Billie will receive a colourful framed certificate and a letter of appreciation from PETA.
