Brave Act Saves Life and Earns Hero to Animals Award
Bolton – For its skills and devotion to duty and for saving the life of a bearded dragon who was pulled out of a kitchen fire in Bolton, a crew from Bolton Central Fire Station has just received PETA’s Hero to Animals Award. The incident, which happened last month, gained national media attention recently after a photo showing one of the crew members administering life-saving oxygen to the lizard was circulated online.
“By remaining calm and determined, the fire and rescue crew saved the life of a terrified animal”, says PETA Director Mimi Bekhechi. “Bolton and the surrounding communities are fortunate to have public servants who are willing to put their own safety on the line to protect all residents, whether on two legs or four.”
“My colleagues and I are very honoured to accept this award and will place it alongside other station awards”, says Watch Manager Tony McKenna. “It’s always gratifying to be in a position to help members of the community and their animals.”
