Every year, tens of thousands of monkeys are abducted from their homes in countries such as Mauritius and crammed into crates bound for laboratories. Dogs are bred on factory farms before they’re separated from their mothers and forced into cargo holds destined for the same location. Upon reaching their destination, these animals are tortured, poisoned, and subjected to other excruciating experiments before ultimately being killed.

Animals suffer when subjected to stressful long, gruelling journeys in the cargo holds of planes. During transport, they’re more likely to spread deadly zoonotic pathogens.

Nearly every major airline in the world refuses to ship sentient beings to laboratories. Yet EGYPTAIR, Scandinavian Airlines, Hainan Airlines, Ethiopian Airlines and SkyTaxi continue to profit from this cruel industry.

I have recently learned that SAS is among the air carriers profiting from the horrific trade that supplies animals to UK laboratories.

It appears your airline flew more than 5,300 dogs from US suppliers to European testing laboratories between April 2021 and May 2023.

Once the dogs reach their destination, they’re likely forced to ingest test compounds and inhale toxic substances, and experimental chemicals may be applied to their shaved skin.

Many other leading airlines refuse to transport animals destined for laboratories, including FedEx, UPS, Cathay Pacific, Korean Airlines, and EVA Air, which prohibit any shipments of animals for experiments. Emirates, Singapore Airlines, and China Airlines won’t ship primates to laboratories, and Lufthansa has banned shipments of cats, dogs, and primates destined for laboratories. British Airways, Aer Lingus, Cargolux, and Qantas also prohibit any shipments of animals to laboratories, and every major airline in the world has a policy prohibiting the shipment of primates destined for experiments.

I am writing to urge you in the strongest possible way to end your practice of flying dogs destined for pain, misery, and death in laboratories.

Please use your position of power at SAS to do the right thing for dogs.
