Fundraising Guidelines
The following are PETA UK’s guidelines for fundraising events. Please read them carefully, as both parties must agree to them before we can proceed:
- All promotional materials related to an event benefiting PETA UK must be reviewed and approved by PETA UK prior to their production and distribution.
- Use of the PETA UK logo is not permitted in any manner or medium for fundraisers.
- Publicity materials and efforts may not imply that the event is sponsored or cosponsored by PETA UK or that PETA UK is involved in any way other than as the beneficiary. Publicity materials (1) should list the event name followed by “In support of People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals UK” or “Proceeds benefit People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals UK” and (2) must conspicuously state that neither the event nor the organising body is affiliated with, sponsored by or endorsed by PETA UK.
- All promotional materials must clearly state the exact percentage of the proceeds that will benefit PETA UK.
- If the event’s advertisements suggest that a percentage of the proceeds will benefit PETA UK, the sponsor should be prepared to provide PETA UK with access to revenue and expense accounting documents.
- The event’s expenses should be kept to a maximum of 35 per cent of the gross revenue.
- If the event organiser plans to seek corporate sponsorship, PETA UK requires advance notification in order to confirm that such sponsorship would be in line with PETA UK’s mission.
- PETA UK is not responsible for marketing, ticket sales or other administrative aspects of third-party events. Event sponsors must have the means to sell tickets and publicise their event.
- Only the final net proceeds will be processed by PETA UK. Third-party revenues and expenses should never flow through PETA UK.
- The event organiser is responsible for obtaining any necessary permits and clearances required by the government and for ensuring that the event or activity is in compliance with all applicable laws. The event organiser must also obtain appropriate insurance coverage to PETA UK’s satisfaction.
- If donations are derived from the sale or promotion of products, those products must be vegan, cruelty-free and approved by PETA UK. For additional clarification, direct questions to PETA UK.
- If donations are derived from the sales of goods that are subject to VAT or other tax, the event organiser bears full responsibility for tax registration and for payment of any tax owed to Her Majesty’s Revenue & Customs.
- If donations are derived from sponsorship solicitations from the public or the participants’ relatives, then the participants must clearly state that they are raising money “in aid of PETA UK”.
- PETA UK does not permit the following forms of third-party fundraising:
- Programmes that raise money on commission
- Events that encourage or involve behaviour that is counter to the PETA UK mission or is unlawful
- Events involving the promotion or support of a political party or a candidate for public office or those that appear to endorse a political activity
- If the fundraiser is cancelled or rescheduled, the organiser will notify PETA UK as soon as possible – at least 48 hours prior to the event’s originally scheduled start time.
- PETA UK reserves the right to withdraw the use of its name at any time.
